A reputable seller will test their wares. If you pack parachutes, the rule is you jump with one you’ve loaded after loading 10. Thankfully this isn’t life or death but still needs to be done.
I took 10 fairly random seeds as a representative of the seed yield that occurred recently. I purposely included some visually marginal seeds that would represent poor seeds I have seen elsewhere.
The germination was done with moist paper towels using RO (reverse osmosis) purified water and a heated seed mat. 48 hours elapsed time gave me the sprouts in the photo above.
7 out of 10 isn’t bad as far as popping tail goes. Now we see how many break soil. And after that, how many are female? And then, are there any weird genetics like misformed leaves/hermies etc? So far not seeing that but it pays to get a bigger sampling.
UPDATE –3/3/25 Out of the 7 that germinated (popped tail) 6 broke soil and are on their way. Acceptable germination rates so far.
